Project Soy Plus 2022 Competition

The 26th Project SOY (Sustainable Opportunities for You) Plus Competition took place on March 25, 2022. For 26 years it has been providing students with a chance to channel their innovative thinking into the development and marketing of plant-based products. Originally started in 1996 as Project SOY, participants were asked to put their minds together to innovate soybean-based products. The competition has now grown to include all plant-based products.

University of Guelph students from the diploma, undergraduate or graduate programs worked in groups with a faculty advisor to create scientifically sound new product concepts and marketing plans were presented on March 25th.

All entries were judged by industry representatives and prizes of $2,500, $1,000 and $500 were awarded to first, second and third place contestant winners in three categories: diploma, undergraduate and graduate.

Two groups of students from the BDDC participated in the competition, one at the undergraduate level and another at the graduate level. Our undergraduate students: Susan Debevc, Nicole Harder and Jeffery Lim presented their project which was entitled “A-maize-ing Bio-Blisters!” While our graduate group consisting of: Peter Zytner, Ehsan Pesaranhajiabbas , Aarsha Surendren and Fatemeh Jahangiri brought the “DropDeter: A Biodegradable Alternative for Shock Indicators.” Both of our teams won second place in the respective groups. Congratulations to our students!
