Project Overview

The Improved utilization of Co-products from Second Generation Biofuel Industries for the Production of New Industrial Bioproducts (BioNIB) project is an initiative aimed to explore beneficial relationships between biofuel and biomaterial manufacturing as well as the potential to add value to biofuel residues.

Nov 27, 2015 - 4th Annual BioNIB Research Meeting

The fourth annual BioNIB research meeting took place on November 27th, 2015. Over 45 participants from academia, industry, and government attended the event. Invited speakers at the event were: Prof. Daolun Chen, Ryerson University and Khurshid Saharan, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. At the meeting, trainees presented their work in oral and poster presentations.

Nov 11, 2014 - 3rd Annual BioNIB Research Meeting

The third annual BioNIB research meeting took place on November 11th, 2014. Academics from partnering institutions came together along with industry partners for a day of networking and research presentations. OMAFRA members Rajib Hazarika and Mahendra Thimmanagari were invited speakers at the event. The BioNIB Board of Directors meeting was also held in the morning.

On November 22nd, 2013, the BDDC researchers attended the second annual BioNIB research meeting. Academics from partnering institutions came together along with industry partners for a day of networking, research presentations, and an industry panel discussion.

Nov 16, 2012 - BDDC Receives Federal Government Grant of $2 Million.

On November 16th, 2012, the Federal Government announced a $2 million grant to the Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre. 

The funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) will be used to purchase equipment and to expand the Centre. 

The funding was announced by the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Regional Minister for Southwestern Ontario, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology).

Finley said the money will help "ensure that researchers have the tools they need to develop and assess new bio-based products that have tremendous commercial applications" and will help to provide new jobs.
